Strip #228: Trial By Jury

strip-228-trial-by-jury

Who else would BW’s peers be, but other webcomic characters? I had fun trying to mimic the different styles of the artists. I hope none of the artists are offended. It was intended as a compliment. Just so everyone knows who’s who: Front row – Hank from Addanac City, Alp from Calamities of Nature, Buckley from Pinkerton, and Medium Large Guy from Medium Large. Second Row – Eben 07 from Eben 07, Ace Pilot from Terence N. Tijuana, and Hodge from How Sweet It Is.

I’ve interacted with most of these strips creators at one time or another… except for Ces, the creator Medium Large – which I’ve included because it was the first webcomic I read – and it inspired me to make my own.

    Oh he’s in trouble…

  2. JerryBenedict Says:

Yup… they don't seem to be in a very good mood!

I was all enthralled looking at what a scary and forbidding judge you had drawn, and imagine my surprise when I got to the last panel! That is the ultimate in coolness, Jer. Thanks for including me (Hank)! He's in such great company. :)

  4. D. Long Says:

Hah, I really like this one. It's always interesting to see stylized versions of other people's cartoons by one artist.

  5. JerryBenedict Says:

You're quite welcome, George! I had almost as much fun drawing the judge as I did the cameos. He he… I was hoping to throw people a curveball… I was looking forward to the reactions!

  6. JerryBenedict Says:

Thanks! Glad you liked it. I always loved when MAD did satires of comic strips… they had some pretty good Peanuts parodies back in the day. What was even funnier… Charles Schulz struck back when he had Charlie Brown see an Alfred E. Nueman head in a sunrise. That's one of my favorite Peanuts strips, because it was so out of character.

I look so tough and mean! lol

  8. Praveen Says:

ya, I agree. THere should be like a webcomic shuffle day, when, once a year, webcomic authors get randomly assigned to other webcomics and have to do their comic. That would be neat :P

Nice! Wiggins is just lucky it's not Aaron on the jury!

  10. JerryBenedict Says:

That sounds like alot of fun! I'd be in for that!

  11. JerryBenedict Says:

That Wiggins brings out the worst in everyone.. Here I thought you might be exempt from jury duty since you have a government job!

  12. JerryBenedict Says:

Thanks, Tony! I think Wiggins caught a break there… Aaron might not be so easy on a certain twisted bunny rabbit…

HEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!! (pardon my enthusiasm) That is hilarious Jerry, and a real nice unexpected surprise! Like Christmas came early! I really enjoy how you've portrayed all the characters. Hank from AC's still a minor though, or is that not an issue in Muddlecreek during jury selection? ;)

Judge there looks like he eats rabbits for a snack, so best of luck to Wiggins. Anyway, the lil guy should know where each member of the jury lives, so when he gets out, he can hunt 'em down Kill Bill style.

He he! I'm thriled at the reaction I've received from everyone so far. It's an idea I've had percolating for a couple of weeks. Glad I could spring a surprise on my fellow artist-types! :)

It's funny you mentioned the Hank part… I thought of that too when I was figuring out which characters to put in… but it occurred to me that someone like Hank might go along with an accidental jury selection just for laughs… and I think he's iconic like the others. Originally, I was going to have him say "I tried to tell them I was too young to be on a jury"… but I thought it subtracted from the ending.

I'm late to the party on this one Jerry! I took the wife to Aruba for her birthday, which ironically was on the 14th! I really got a kick out of this strip, not because you were kind enough to do a flattering rendition of Hodge, but I liked how you broached the "jury of his peers" being other comic characters!!

As far as the sentencing I have something else in mind for BW that would probably take his mind off of revenge… not to mention any one of those characters could kick his ass in a fair fight!

  17. JerryBenedict Says:

Oh – cool! Hope Aruba was nice… what a great present! I've only been out of the country once – about three years ago. Hope to check out Europe someday. Have 2nd cousins in England I'd really like to meet.

I was glad to include Hodge in the jury. I picked the characters I thought were the most iconic of the strips I read!

[...] a bit of FUN news, Hodge recently made his debut over at Muddlecreek doing jury duty for the Bunny Wiggins trial. I have to say, I loved the premise of this comic done [...]

I've got a lil' treat for you in my 1st Year Anniversary Special comic. :)
